Make the switch to LPG Autogas and keep more money in your pocket.
- Autogas is typically at least 50 percent cheaper than other automotive fuels, meaning you will save money at the pump from day one.
- For example, if over the course of a year Autogas averaged 65 cents per litre, while unleaded petrol averaged $1.40 per litre, a Holden Commodore driver traveling 28,000 kilometres a year on Autogas would save $2,020 – the equivalent of $38 per week.
- Using the same comparative fuel prices, a Toyota HiAce van travelling 40,000 kms a year on Autogas would save its owner $2,886 a year or $55 a week.
How long does installation usually take?
The typical time for a standard installation of a Venturi system is 1-2 days, the more advanced Gas Vapour Injection system takes 3-4 days.
How many types of gas systems are there?
There are two types of gas systems out there. The first system uses technology which is approximately 30-40 years old, it uses the air intake system of the engine to suck the gas into the motor, and this system works well on the vast majority of cars manufactured prior to 2004. The efficiency in general is limited compared to the fuel efficiency on petrol. A loss of power compared to petrol in the order of 10-20% is realistic and gas usage increase compared to petrol of up to 30% is also expected.
The second type of gas system is the latest technology and is known as Gas Vapour Injection. It uses the same technology to feed the engine with fuel (gas) as a fuel injected car would normally use, e.g. computer control and injectors. The efficiency of this system is almost identical to petrol in terms of power and economy very little difference will be noticed. The system is programmed to start on petrol from cold start to 55c, it then converts itself to LPGAS so there is never a need to manually change between petrol and gas unless you run out of either fuel.
Can all vehicles be converted to gas?
The answer is no, not all vehicles have been approved for conversion to gas. How it works is that in general all vehicles manufactured before 2004 can be converted without restriction. Vehicles manufactured in 2004 or after must be emissions tested on gas as well as petrol before they can be legally converted to gas. This process is expensive and as a result only vechiles in high demand for gas conversions have been approved. Needless to say as time goes on more and more 2004 and beyond vehicles will be government certified for conversion so eternally, most vehicles will be able to legally be converted. Please keep in touch with us before buying a 2004 onwards vehicle that you intend to convert to gas to ensure it’s status with government approval.
